Just for You

“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Not only can trauma be healed, but with appropriate guidance and support, it can be transformative.” – Peter A. Levine.

EMDR delves into the heart of present-day challenges by identifying and addressing difficult situations, emotions, and negative beliefs stemming from traumatic experiences. By employing techniques like eye movements or tapping, EMDR alleviates distress associated with traumatic memories intertwined with negative self-beliefs such as "I am not good enough" or "I am powerless." Through this process, individuals cultivate more adaptive and positive self-beliefs, envisioning a transformative shift from self-doubt to self-acceptance.

Ask Me

Anything

You’ve got questions and I want to make sure you’ve got the space to ask them! Here are just a few of the questions I get the most.

  • An EMDR session will involve a brief check in. We will “secure you space”, identify the memory we want to target, the negative belief and body sensations associated with it. We will utilize eye movements or tapping until there is minimal distress associated with the memory. We will install a positive cognition, do a grounding exercise and reflect on experience together.

  • It will be difficult to know until we begin EMDR and have a better understanding of how your brain and nervous system work.

  • Your EMDR therapist will work closely with you to prepare you for EMDR therapy in the first few sessions together. Your therapist will screen you for dissociation and will teach various skills to manage difficult emotions that may arise. It is important to ensure you have a private, comfortable space for your EMDR sessions and is encouraged that you have a bit of time after EMDR before transitioning back into your activities or obligations.
